Tom Hatcher - Class of 2005
(Florida Atlantic University) As of 4/25 the Owls are 24-17 overall and 7-12 in the Sun Belt conference. Tom is currently batting .314 with 43 hits, 12 doubles, 8 homeruns, and 30 rbi's. He has a slugging pctg (.577) and an on base pctg (.386) with (26) runs scored. ..As a junior (2008): Hit .319 with nine home runs and 46 RBI during an impressive first season in Boca Raton...25 multiple-hit games in 58 starts...played in all 60 games, huge part of FAU's success...batted in the heart of the batting order...Started 53 times as the designated hitter, four in left field and once at first base...hit Sun Belt Conference pitching at a rate of .336, totaling 37 hits in 27 league starts...stole 10 bases, second-highest total on the team...25 multi-hit games also second-best among all FAU players...Homered and drove in four runs vs. then-No. 5 North Carolina (2/23) in second game of year...hit safely in 10 of first 12 games, holding a .351 average by mid-March...went 3-for-3 with a homer, double, three RBI and a stolen base in sweep-clinching win over Louisiana-Lafayette (3/16)...hit a grand slam and had a season-high 5 RBI at No. 1 Miami (4/1)...ripped a 16-game hitting streak from April 5-May 2...went 6-for-6 with a homer and four RBI in the final two games of a conference series with Arkansas State (May 10-11)...hit his ninth homer of the season at the Sun Belt Conference Championship during a 6-5 win over Western Kentucky (5/24) that put FAU within one game of the league title.

Brian Pierce - Class of 2005
(Georgia Southern University) The Eagles are 25-9 overall and 9-4 in the Southern conference with a couple of wins against GA Tech. Brian is currently batting .310 with a triple, two homeruns, seven doubles and thirty nine hits. He has a slugging pctg (.429) and an on base pctg (.355) with (23) runs scored. Brian enters his senior year with a streak of 169 consecutive games started, all at shortstop... JUNIOR (2008): Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-District... one of three Eagles to start in all 58 games... career-highs of 13 doubles, 37 runs scored, 31 RBI, four hit by pitches, five stolen bases and .957 fielding percentage... hit second-ever home run, a 3-run shot during game two (his 21st birthday) which helped break the NCAA single-game home run record against Columbia (14 HR)... >>more |
J.D. Hulse - Class of 2007
(Birmingham Southern University) The Panthers are 18-6 and J.D. is currently batting .362 with a couple of triples and a homerun. He currently is 4th in batting avg. (.363 ) and slugging pctg (.475) and 3rd in on base pctg (.475) and 2nd in runs scored (33). In 2008 Hulse was named to the All-SCAC team... .315 avg in 38 starts for the Panthers... 39 runs, 47 hits, 3 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs... 20 RBIs... .403 slugging percentage... 19 walks, 3 strikeouts... .404 on-base percentage... 15 stolen bases... .987 fielding percentage.

Andre Airich - Class of 2006
(North Georgia College and State University) The Saints are 18-14 going into this weekend. Andre is currently hitting .394 with 4 home runs. He currently leads the team with 52 hits, 15 doubles and 34 rbi . During the 2008 season Andre was named to the Rawlings/ABCA All-Southeast Region Gold Glove Team after registering 60 putouts and 139 assists while helping turn 11 double plays. He finished the season with just one error over his final 13 games at third base…
played and started in 59 games, with 51 starts at third base and eight at second base…collected a .339 batting average with five home runs and 43 runs batted in…recorded 81 hits which was good for third on the team, and 18 doubles which was second on the team…walked 32 times and stole 11 bases in 13 attempts.

[Alumni]Airich Picks up PBC Player of the Week Honors
AUGUSTA, GA – Junior Andre Airich has been named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week after hitting .688 last week with 11 hits, three runs scored, and nine runs batted in. The junior started with a 2-for-4 performance, including a homerun and five RBI against Alabama-Huntsville, but came to the forefront in a three-game set against Francis Marion over the weekend. In the series, Airich hit .750, going 4-for-5 with a double in the opener, 2-for-3 with two RBI in the second game and 3-for-4 with two more RBI and two runs scored in the finale. He slugged .938 on the week with a .722 on-base percentage and did not strike out in 18 plate appearances. Airich is currently hitting .424 to rank fourth in the Peach Belt Conference, and leads the league in hits with 61, and doubles with 16.

Troy Mendez - Class of 2005
(East Tennessee State University)
The Buccaneers are 7-9 going into this weekend and Troy is currently batting .254. During the 2008 season Mendez played in 54 games for the Bucs as an outfielder and DH….batted .322 with 14 doubles, eight home runs, and 36 RBIs….had a four-RBI game against Jacksonville on March 20….he hit a three-run game-winning home run against Tennessee on April 9…Led the team with 16 multiple hit games….Had an eight-game hitting streak in 2008 and received Atlantic Sun All-Academic honors.
3-30-09 "[Roswell Alum] Mendez Named A-Sun Player of the Week"
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 30, 2009) – For the second straight week an ETSU player was named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week as senior Troy Mendez (Roswell, Ga.) earned the honor announced the conference office Monday.
One week after Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) slugged his way to the hitting honor; Mendez followed Reeder’s lead by helping the Buccaneers to a 3-1 week and continued the team’s winning streak, one that ultimately reached five in a row. The senior outfielder hit .450 on the week (9-for-20) with a double, two home runs including a grand slam, scored seven runs and drove in 13. Mendez had an incredible seven RBI against Mercer in the second game of the series as the Bucs went on to win 12-8 and took their second straight conference series.
The senior also had five RBI in the UNC Asheville game as the Bucs completed the sweep of the Bulldogs. The Roswell, Ga. native slugged .800 on the week and had an on base percentage of .500. Mendez is currently tied for the team lead in RBI with 13 and is second in hits with 31 and home runs with five.

Chris Cuppia - Class of 2006
(University of Richmond)
The Spyders are 9-3 and Chris is currently batting .360. As a sophmore Chris batted .284 on the season, but owned the team's second-leading on-base percentage (.415)... Drew 18 walks and struck out just 16 times in 95 at bats... Played in 37 games and started 28 at second base... Increased his average nearly 60 points over the final eight games of the season (from .229 to .284)... Batted a team-leading .440 in that stretch (11-for-25) with a double and five RBI... His .976 fielding percentage was second-best among starters... Went three-for-three with two runs and two RBI in the season-finale versus St. Bonaventure.
